Day 01 :
Fly Addis Ababa to Lalibela – Explore the Northern Rock-Hewn Churches

Depart early from Addis Ababa on a scenic domestic flight to Lalibela, one of the most spiritually significant sites in Ethiopia. On arrival, meet your local guide and begin exploring the famous Northern Cluster of rock hewn churches remarkable 12th century structures carved directly into red volcanic rock. These monolithic churches, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, and Bete Golgotha, are living places of worship, rich in symbolism and spiritual reverence. Your guide will share legends of King Lalibela and the “New Jerusalem” vision behind the town's creation. Overnight stay Mountain View hotel.

Day 02 :
Lalibela Bete Giorgis and Back to Addis Ababa

This morning, visit the iconic Bete Giorgis, carved in the shape of a perfect Greek cross and arguably Ethiopia's most famous church. Then explore the Southern Cluster, including Bete Gabriel-Rufael, Bete Emmanuel, and Bete Abba Libanos, all interconnected through tunnels and walkways. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.

Day 03 :
Addis Ababa to Axum – Ancient Kingdom of Power

Fly to the legendary city of Axum, once the heart of one of Africa’s greatest ancient empires. Begin your tour at the famous Stelae Field, where massive granite obelisks mark the tombs of kings and nobility. Explore the Queen of Sheba’s palace ruins, the Ezana Stone (inscribed in three ancient languages), and the Church of St. Mary of Zion, where many Ethiopian Christians believe the Ark of the Covenant is kept. Day 04 :
Excursion to Abune Yemata Guh – The Church in the Sky

Today is for the bold. Depart Axum early and drive through Tigray rugged mountains to reach Abune Yemata Guh, arguably the world’s most dramatic church. Perched on a vertical cliff face, reaching the church requires a short hike, a scramble over rocks, and a narrow ledge walk. But the reward is immense inside are 1,500 year old frescoes, centuries-old manuscripts, and soul-stirring views across the sandstone cliffs. Day 05 :
Drive from Hawzen to Danakil Depression – Into the Afar Lands

Leave the highlands behind as you drive southeast toward the Danakil Depression, one of the world’s most extreme environments. Along the journey, pass through Afar villages, volcanic formations, and stark desert landscapes. Arrive in the late afternoon near Dallol or Lake Assale, where you’ll set up camp. The surreal silence, blazing heat, and lunar-like views create an otherworldly atmosphere. Dinner will be prepared by the expedition team, and you'll camp under the stars in the desert wilderness. Day 06 :
Danakil Depression – Dallol & Salt Miners

Today is a deep dive into the alien world of the Danakil Depression, sitting over 100 meters below sea level. Explore the acid springs, neon-colored sulfur fields, and salt crusts of Dallol, formed by volcanic activity and mineral deposits. Meet Afar salt miners, who carve slabs of salt and transport them by camel caravans, continuing an ancient trade tradition. Visit the vast salt lake of Assale, where the earth reflects the sky. This region is both geologically active and culturally rich.Overnight: Camping in Danakil Desert.

Day 07 :
Danakil Depression – Volcanic Formations & Return to Semera

Wake up early and explore more hidden corners of the Danakil, including lava fields, salt canyons, or natural hot springs (based on conditions). After lunch, start your return journey toward Semera, the capital of the Afar Region, where the desert meets civilization. Check into your hotel and enjoy a well-earned shower and rest after three days in one of Earth’s most unforgiving yet mesmerizing landscapes. Overnight in Semera.

Day 08 :
Semera to Addis Ababa

This morning, take a domestic flight from Semera back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your international flight time, you may have the opportunity to do some last-minute shopping, visit a local restaurant, or explore a bit of Addis Ababa (optional). Then transfer to Bole International Airport for your departure, concluding your once-in-a-lifetime journey through Ethiopia’s spiritual heartlands and natural extremes.
